Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
